The Best Leading Indicator for TradingView: See the Next Entry Before Price Gets There

RSI, MACD and moving-average crossovers all tell you what already happened. Here's how to get your entry, three targets and a stop on the chart before the move, and how to check that none of it repaints.

Quick answer

  • Most popular TradingView indicators are lagging: they're calculated from past candles, so their signals fire after the move has started.
  • A real leading indicator puts the next entry on your chart before price reaches it, with the targets and the stop already planned.
  • Valhalla Indicator does exactly that: "Long at / Short at" levels, 3 targets, a stop that only moves in your favor, 130+ ready-made strategies, a built-in backtest, and no repaint.

You've seen it a hundred times. The crossover prints, the alert hits your phone, you open the chart, and price is already 3% away from where the move started. You buy anyway. And you're the liquidity for everyone who got in early.

That's not bad luck. It's math. The indicators most traders use are built to confirm a move, and confirmation always comes late. If you want to stop chasing, you need a tool that tells you where the trade is before it happens.

What is a leading indicator?

A leading indicator shows you a trade level before price reaches it, so you can plan the entry, targets and stop in advance. A lagging indicator (moving averages, MACD, RSI) is calculated from candles that already closed, so its signal only appears after the move has started. On TradingView, Valhalla Indicator is a leading indicator: it draws the next entry as a "Long at" or "Short at" level before price gets there.

Why are most TradingView indicators always late?

Moving averages, MACD, RSI, Stochastics, SuperTrend, Bollinger Bands: they're all calculated from candles that already closed. A 21-period moving average is literally the average of the last 21 closes. By definition, it can only react to a move after enough candles of that move exist.

So when a "buy" fires on a crossover:

  • the move has already run for several candles,
  • the best price is gone,
  • your stop has to be wider, because it sits below a move that already happened,
  • and the remaining reward is smaller than the risk you're taking.

Adding more lagging indicators doesn't fix it. Three late signals agreeing with each other are still late. They just make the chart look busier and make you feel more confident about a worse entry.

What should a real leading indicator give you?

"Leading" gets thrown around a lot. Before you trust any tool with the word in its description, check that it gives you these five things:

  1. The entry level before price gets there. Not a signal after the candle closes. An actual price on your chart that you can plan around, set an alert on, or place a limit order at.
  2. A full plan, not just a direction. Entry, take-profit targets and a stop, all decided before you're in the trade, while your head is still clear.
  3. No repaint. If signals move or disappear after the fact, the history on your chart is fiction, and so is every "perfect" screenshot.
  4. Proof for your exact market. A backtest on the symbol and timeframe you actually use, so you can see how the setup performed in the past before risking money on it.
  5. Alerts that come early. A heads-up when price is getting close, not a notification after the move.

Most "leading" indicators pass one or two of these. Here's what it looks like when one passes all five.

How does Valhalla show the next entry before price gets there?

Valhalla Indicator is an invite-only TradingView indicator built around one idea: prepare for the move instead of reacting to it. Instead of waiting for a signal, it draws where the next position opens. Press play and watch a position play out candle by candle.

Valhalla shows a Long at level before price reaches it; when price arrives the position opens with an entry, three targets and a stop
The "Long at" level is on the chart first. When price reaches it, the position opens with its entry, three targets and a stop. (Illustration of the Valhalla look on demo data)

1. "Long at" and "Short at": the next entry, already on your chart

On the right edge of the chart, Valhalla shows two labels: "Long at: x" and "Short at: x". Those are the prices where the next long or short position opens. You see them before price gets there, so you can plan the trade, set your alert, or step away from the screen.

The level updates as new structure forms, and an alert tells you when it moves. The moment price reaches it, a green LONG or red SHORT label prints and the background changes color, so you always know which side you're on.

2. The whole trade plan: entry, 3 targets and a stop

Every position comes with a complete plan the second it opens:

  • a cyan entry line,
  • three green targets (TP1, TP2, TP3) with their prices on the right, each getting a βœ“ when reached,
  • a red stop that only moves in your favor as new levels form. It never moves against you.

Pick your style: TP1 for frequent, smaller wins, TP2 as the balanced sweet spot, TP3 for the bigger moves if you're disciplined (or automated).

3. "Get ready" alerts before price arrives

Valhalla sends three kinds of alerts: when a position opens (with the entry, all three targets, the stop and the stats), when the next entry or stop moves, and a "Get ready" alert when price comes within 0.5% of the next entry. Alerts work on TradingView, and members also get them in our Discord and Telegram.

[[widget:alert-demo market=BTCUSDT.P tf=5m]]

Got a job? You don't need to stare at charts. Let the "Get ready" alert tap you on the shoulder when the setup is close.

4. Check the backtest before you take the trade

Turn on the Statistics panel and Valhalla backtests the selected strategy on the history loaded on your chart. You get one column per target: accuracy, wins, average reward-to-risk, profit factor, net profit and more. At the top sits a Performance Grade: πŸ”₯ Strong, πŸ‘ Solid or ⚠️ Risky.

The rule is simple: only follow Strong or Solid. You see how the setup performed on your market and timeframe before you trust it with real money.

5. 130+ ready-made strategies. Pick your market, done.

No settings to figure out. Open the Strategy menu and pick the one for your market, for example BTCUSDT.P - Binance | 1m, 5m, 15m, 1h. There are ready-made strategies for:

  • Crypto: BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, PEPE and more
  • US stocks: NVDA, TSLA, AAPL, AMZN, META and more
  • Indices and futures: ES, NQ, MNQ, SPX, QQQ, DAX, US30 and more
  • Forex: EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/JPY, AUD/JPY, NZD/USD
  • Commodities: gold, silver, oil, gasoline
Rule #1: your chart must show the same symbol and one of the listed timeframes. Trading gold with the BTC strategy loaded gives you wrong levels and wrong stats.

Does Valhalla repaint? How to check any indicator yourself

No, Valhalla doesn't repaint. Labels and levels don't change after the fact: what you see on history is what you would have seen live. Repainting is the dirty secret of "99% accurate" indicators. A repainting indicator recalculates past signals using information that wasn't available at the time, so its history looks flawless and its live signals don't.

Don't take our word for it. Test it with TradingView's Bar Replay, the same way you should test any indicator:

  1. Add the indicator and note where its signals are on recent history.
  2. Click Replay, jump back before those signals, and play the chart forward candle by candle.
  3. Watch whether every signal prints at the same candle and price as it shows on history. If anything appears earlier, later or not at all, it repaints.

That's also why the "Long at" level is so powerful: it's a live, forward-looking level that you can verify in real time, not a pretty arrow painted onto old candles. Want to see repainting happen? Read how to spot a repainting indicator in 60 seconds.

FAQ

What is the best leading indicator on TradingView?

The best leading indicator puts the next entry on your chart before price reaches it, together with the targets, the stop and a backtest for that market. Valhalla Indicator does this with its Long at / Short at levels, three targets, a stop that only moves in your favor and a built-in Statistics panel, and it doesn't repaint.

What is the difference between a leading and a lagging indicator?

A leading indicator shows a level before price reaches it, so you can plan the trade in advance. A lagging indicator, like a moving average, MACD or RSI, is calculated from closed candles, so it only confirms a move after it has started.

Is a leading indicator 100% accurate?

No, and any tool that claims it is should make you suspicious. A leading indicator gives you the plan before the move instead of a signal after it. Valhalla's Statistics panel shows how often each target was reached on the loaded history, so you can see how a strategy performed in the past before you use it.

Does Valhalla repaint?

No. Labels and levels don't change after the fact. What you see on past candles is what you would have seen live. Check it yourself with TradingView's Bar Replay.

Can the "Long at" level change before price reaches it?

Yes. It updates as new structure forms until price reaches it, and an alert tells you when it moves. Once price reaches it, the position opens and the entry is fixed.

Which markets does Valhalla work on?

Crypto, US stocks, indices and futures, forex and commodities such as gold, silver and oil, with 130+ ready-made strategies, each built for a specific market and its timeframes.

Can I automate Valhalla trades?

Yes. Lifetime members get webhook automation alerts that can send the entry, targets and stop to an automation platform or broker.

Stop chasing moves. Plan them.

Get the next entry, three targets and a stop on your chart before price gets there, on crypto, stocks, indices, forex and gold.
